Chapter Five

“I’m growing bored with this,” Alothos groaned, leaning across Cali’s desk, a pout on his lips. “How long must I wait for my mate?”

“I’m sure he’ll be here soon, Uncle,” Pink soothed, plopping down so his wings fluttered prettily. “I am not sure where he has run off to, but if he does not show up soon, I’ll write my brother and send a message to Mother.”

“What does Death have to do with Jealousy?” Cali asked. She had long since given up on keeping the Fae in their closet where they belonged. Besides, the chickens were beginning to peck at the door in an effort to get to their master. They were cute in an intimidating way, but the mess they made of the inner offices was not worth keeping them out of sight.

“Lizzie Borden ring any bells?” Alothos arched one white eyebrow. “And then there are crimes of passion. Christmas and Valentine’s Day are a bumper crop of work for me. Gotta hand it to these pagans. They knew the perfect ways to drive a repressed human over the edge. And then they went and created special days for it too.”

“Right.” Cali rolled her eyes but settled back down into her chair.

“So, I’ll contact Mother, and she will find Entropy and then we can have a wedding!” Pink bounced, sending a shower of dust flying about the room.

“Hold off on that lust powder, Pink,” Alothos warned, waving a hand and collecting the pink glittery powder before it could circulate around the office and cause any harm. “I have not gotten laid in a while, and it is getting harder and harder to not jack myself hairy-palmed and blind in the bathroom with all your active sex lives going on around me. And doing these reports for these clubs is not helping.”

“Well, you wanted to do the spicy side of life.” Cali snickered. “And your articles are gaining in popularity.”

“I’m sick of this!” Alothos declared, rising to his feet. “I can’t be here anymore, nephew, not right now. Not with the cloying aroma of sexual satisfaction that permeates this place. It’s making me hard.”

He looked down at his crotch, and sure enough, there was a sizable bulge.

“Nice,” Cali muttered, making both males turn and stare in her direction.

“What?” she stammered. “A girl can comment.”

“And it’s precisely why I have to get out of here.” Al rolled his eyes. “If I can’t control my dick around you, whom I have no interest in whatsoever --”

“Thanks,” Cali snapped, slouching back into her chair.

“Don’t mention it,” Al shot back. “And as I was saying, if I can’t control it around people whom I have no interest in sexually, how am I going to react to my mate when he gets here? I’d be liable to jump the poor Fae before he makes it fully into my presence. And I am sure that will endear me to him forever.” He headed toward the door.

“Where are you going, Uncle Al?” Pink asked, stepping closer to his uncle, his head tilted to the side, concern written clearly on his face.
